How to choose a solar flood light for home security
Match wattage, mounting angle, panel direction and backup mode before buying.
Pick wattage by the area
Flood lights are about spread, not throw. Use 10W actual operating power for an entry gate or dark corner, 20W for a two-car driveway or backyard, and 30W units at intervals for farmhouse boundaries. Bigger claims such as 200W or 300W should be read as LED power rating only.
Mount high, angle down
Security lighting works when there are no dark pockets. Mount the light 10-12 ft high and angle it about 30 degrees downward so the beam washes the ground without glaring into eyes or cameras.
The panel decides everything
Face the solar panel south with 5-6 hours of direct sun and keep it clear of tree or parapet shadow. The light and panel angle can be adjusted so each points where it should.
Use remote modes for backup
Home Guard and Boundary models ship with a remote. Use full brightness in the evening, then timer or half-power mode overnight to stretch 12-16 hour backup through cloudy spells.
Monsoon-proof checklist
For year-round outdoor use, insist on IP65 or higher sealing, IP67 for exposed boundary walls, LiFePO4 battery, metal mounting bracket and a written 2-year warranty.
