Overview

The Infrared Motion Sensor Recessed (Model 1278) is a passive infrared (PIR) motion sensor switch operating on 220-240V AC mains supply, designed for automatic energy-saving lighting control in housing society staircase and corridor lighting, housing colony common area and lift lobby lighting, office building corridor and room lighting, hotel guest room and corridor lighting, hospital ward and clinic corridor lighting, and any Indian indoor wired AC lighting environment requiring automatic PIR motion-triggered switching. Featuring a 110° detection angle, Max 1-6M (<23° 4-6M, >23° 1-4M) detection distance, 40SEC ±10SEC time delay, lux level of ≤ 10, IP20 rating, and a 3.5M installation height, with a 20mm cutout size, the Model 1278 is the recessed PIR switch in the LumenCity Energy Saving Sensor range. The PIR sensor detects the infrared radiation of the human body within the detection zone — when a person enters the zone, the sensor activates the connected lighting load and holds it on for the set time delay period before switching off automatically if no further motion is detected.

Detection – 110° Angle | Max 1-6M (<23° 4-6M, >23° 1-4M)

The Recessed PIR sensor Model 1278 provides a 110° detection angle with a Max 1-6M (<23° 4-6M, >23° 1-4M) detection range — the confirmed specifications from the product image. The 110-degree detection angle provides a focused downward cone appropriate for recessed ceiling installation directly above the entry point. The detection range and angle specifications are measured under standard test conditions.

Time Delay & LUX Level – 40SEC ±10SEC | ≤ 10

The time delay in the Model 1278 is set to 40SEC ±10SEC — the confirmed delay specification. The time delay controls how long the connected LED load remains on after the last motion is detected within the detection zone. For housing society staircase and corridor lighting, a shorter time delay of 10-30 seconds provides the most energy-efficient operation — the light activates when a person enters the staircase and switches off shortly after they exit the detection zone. For office corridors and hotel guest rooms, a longer delay of 2-7 minutes provides a better occupancy experience. The lux level of ≤ 10 controls the ambient light threshold at which the PIR sensor permits activation — preventing unnecessary daytime activation when daylight provides sufficient illumination.

IP20 Weatherproofing | Cutout 20mm

IP20 weatherproofing is confirmed for the Model 1278. IP20 certifies protection against solid objects larger than 12mm and provides no specific water resistance — confirming that the Model 1278 is intended for dry indoor ceiling installation only, such as false ceiling and interior staircase positions. The recessed installation format requires a 20mm cutout in the ceiling or wall surface.

Load Capacity – Max 40W (LED)

The connected load capacity of the Model 1278 is Max 40W (LED). The LED load capacity is the critical specification for modern LED lighting installations — as LED loads draw significantly less current than incandescent equivalents, the Max 40W (LED) LED capacity covers standard residential and commercial LED lighting circuits. The incandescent lamp capacity of undefined (where listed) provides backward compatibility with older installations. For housing society staircase circuits where 4-8 LED staircase lights at 7-10W each are controlled from a single sensor, the Model 1278 load capacity is sufficient for typical staircase circuit loads. Input voltage 220-240V AC is confirmed.

Installation Height & Mounting – 3.5M | Cutout 20mm

The Recessed PIR Motion Sensor Model 1278 installs into a 20mm circular cutout in the false ceiling or wall surface at 3.5M installation height. Mains AC wiring from the circuit connects to the sensor’s input terminals, and the switched output connects to the LED load. The connected load capacity of Max 40W (LED) covers standard LED lighting circuits. Installation by a qualified electrician is recommended. For housing society staircase lighting where the sensor replaces an existing wall switch or corridor light switch, the Model 1278 installs in the existing switch position and wiring route.
