How to light a farmhouse compound
Plan in zones, not lights
A farmhouse is not one lighting problem, it is four. The perimeter wall wants cool-white security floods. The gate wants warm pillar lamps and a nameplate wash. The driveway wants pole-mounted street lights. The lawn wants warm ambience lamps. Budget and buy zone by zone.
Perimeter: corners first, then fill
Mount Boundary 30W floods at 10-12 ft, starting at the four corners of the compound, then fill the long runs every 25-30 ft, angled slightly inward so beams overlap and leave no dark pockets.
Driveway: poles, spacing and trees
Line the approach with street lights on 12-16 ft poles, spaced at 2.5-3x the pole height. For shaded stretches, use Cloud Pro so the light hangs in shade and the panel sits in open sun.
Built for the house nobody's in
Most farmhouses sit empty five days a week, so lighting must run itself: dusk-to-dawn sensors, 12-hour backup, LiFePO4 batteries and motion or half-power modes for cloudy weeks.
